Our History
Our family has been living in the Steveston-London area for the past 23 years, and we have seen the area change from raspberry fields, farm, industrial and commercial land to the current blend of industrial, retail and high-density residential properties. We've always had a knack for good food, and seeing the way that the area was being developed, we identified the need for a nice place for people to eat and enjoy their time during the day and in the evening after a long hard day at work. Also, we've always wanted to introduce people to the vast variety of delicious and appetizing selection of Pan-Asian foods. Thus, the Blackberry Bistro was born.
What Are We About?
Our Environment
The restaurant is located just by the picturesque South-Richmond Dyke, a very short walk from the Fraser River and just a few metres East of No. 2 Road. The South-Richmond Dyke has undergone dramatic change over the years, with its development into an ideal recreation area for families, runners, and walkers, and also with many homes being sprouted up in this quiet and relaxing area.
The South-Richmond Dyke has long been a popular quiet spot for many, where one may enjoy a nice morning jog, a sunny afternoon by the river, or a quiet evening of fishing and a walk by the river amidst a beautiful panoramic sunset backdrop. All in all, this is a wonderful and laid-back area to spend a moment or a day.
The Food
Our food is generally a fusion of South-East Asian food (Pan-Asian) presented in a Western style (except you still eat it with chopsticks). We have selected some of what we believe to be the most compelling foods from South-East Asia and put it together on our menu. Our dinner menu is a more complete representation of the best of South-East Asia, and as time goes along we will be presenting some occasional unique special dinner items as well.
Our Service
Relaxed - that's how you should feel here, and that's how we try to be as well, though we are a bistro after all, so the food should be brought out to you fairly fast. During the morning and the day, we offer a quick-serve (or self-serve) style, where you place your order at the counter and we bring your meal to you at your seat. For dinner, we offer full service, where one of our hosts will seat you and wait on you at your table.
The restaurant features a main floor seating area with 10 tables and about 40 seats. We also have a mezzanine with 4 tables, and a small lounge area with leather lounge chairs and coffee tables arranged infront of a fireplace and an LCD high-definition TV. Dine here on your own, with a date, or together with friends and family to the backdrop of smooth jazz.
Why "Blackberry Bistro"?
Historically, the area had immense growths of blackberry bushes all around the neighbourhood. Those in the know would come during late July and August to pick these blackberries - a deliciously sweet and tangy treat to eat while you're walking along, or to bring home for snacking or to make into something special. With the construction and development in the area, much of the blackberry bushes have been cut away, though the blackberry is a hearty plant and finds its way to grow back. Also, some blackberry bushes still remain along No. 2 Road and along the Dyke near the bike park. So, to remember the blackberry bushes that used to be in the area, we've named the restaurant Blackberry Bistro.
